Poppet's Pasttymes

Poppet's' Pasttymes is the children's educational activities area. In this area we try to give children and their parents an opportunity to experience small glimpses of what it might have been like for children living in Elizabethan Renaissance England, by doing hands on activities similar to things that Renaissance children would have done.

These cover activities from infancy to apprenticeship, which usually marked entering adulthood for Elizabethan children. Activities in the areas of chores, amusements, and education are included and activities suitable for children of all age levels are available. Grandma Shepherd and her helpers encourage families to come back as often as they like to enjoy our child friendly activities in our cool shady Glade. Even adults without children are welcome to learn about Elizabethan child life in the glade with us.

They get to keep the samples they make, of course (except on the floor loom, because each child's work becomes a part of the large finished fabric).

Poppet's' Pasttymes is a very busy place during the Fair, parents are expected to look after their own children while in the glade and to participate with their children in the various activities.
