Out of the Woodwork Productions
As part of its community outreach program, OOTW is pleased to invite musical, vocal, and theatrical performers from the community to perform upon their stages. As a historical based faire drawing its inspiration from Elizabethan England, we ask that artists who wish to perform on our stages present music, masques, literary works or other forms of entertainment such as puppetry, story telling, juggling, magic or dance from that time period.
OOTW offers three different performance opportunities for community and school groups.
The "Be a Guest Performer" Program offers an opportunity for performance groups to perform at the faire accompanied by their directors. Individuals may perform but must audition.
Opportunities exist for craftsmen and artisans to demonstrate period skills and activities.
The Performance Contests allows performance groups to compete against each other accompanied by their directors. Judges for these contests are drawn from professionals in the performance field. Performance contests have been temporarily suspended for the 2010 season of the Virginia Renaissance Faire. Performance groups that are interested in performing should apply as a performer in the "Be A Guest Performer" program.
Guest Performers may perform in the following areas:
Middle and High School groups may compete in the following Performance Contests:
* Shakespeare in Quarter Time Drama Contest - Write and perform a compressed version of a single work by William Shakespeare.
* Madrigal Contest - Perform two a cappella songs based upon renaissance themes drawn from folk songs, and secular and church music.
