Heraldry Contest
The Heraldry Contest, open to students and adults,
provides an opportunity to showcase artistic skills by designing a heraldic
banner using Elizabethan themes.
Design
an original heraldry banner or flag based upon renaissance heraldry themes. All entries will be displayed during the
Virginia Renaissance Faire. OOTW reserves the right not to display entries that do not follow a renaissance
heraldry theme or would be considered inappropriate for a family oriented venue.
The Virginia Renaissance Faire is an outdoor venue presented rain or shine.
Although reasonable attempts will be made to ensure the integrity of the works submitted, all entries should be
weather tolerant.
Rules
- 1. Entries must be
submitted in one of five Divisions: Elementary School (grades 1-2, and
grades 3-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), High School (grades 9-12) and
Adult.
- 2. All entries must be original work (no computer generated graphics) and submitted by the artist or
guardian.
- 3. Entries must be on
fabric with a minimum size of 11 x 17 inches. Fabric, paints, ink, and markers are
suitable media but need to be water proof. Each banner must either have grommets on the top corners or retain a 4
inch undecorated top border.
- 4. All entries need to be accompanied with a brief description of the symbols presented.
- 5. One entry per artist.
- 6. Entries must be received no later than midnight EDT, May 1, 2009.
- 7. OOTW reserves the right to cancel the contest if insufficient entries are received.
- 8. All entries will be judged on originality and
best interpretation of the Renaissance theme. The decision of the judges is
final. Winners will be
announced no later than May 16, 2009.
Awards
- 1st place: The winning banners will be
displayed at the front gate. The winning artists will receive a family 4 pack of
tickets to the Virginia Renaissance Faire and a certificate of
participation.
- 2nd place: Banner will be displayed at the
main stage. The artist will receive
two tickets to the Virginia Renaissance Faire and a certificate of
participation.
- 3rd place: Banner will be displayed at the
main stage. The artist will receive
two tickets to the Virginia Renaissance Faire and a certificate of
participation.
- All participates will receive a ticket to the Virginia
Renaissance Faire and a certificate of
participation.
