As part of its community outreach program, OOTW has established activities to promote the exploration of life in Elizabethan England. The 16th Century in England was considered a Renaissance, a time of growth and rebirth. Although girls did not always receive formal education, Elizabeth was well educated by her tutors in many different subjects including numbers and letters, arts, languages, and dancing. In the spirit of the Renaissance, OOTW provides opportunities and activities to enhance a student's education.
The Writing Contest, open to students and adults, provides an opportunity to showcase writing skills by writing an Elizabeth sonnet. Contest Divisions are Elementary School (grades 4-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), High School (grades 9-12), and adult.
The Art Contest, open to students and adults, provides an opportunity to showcase artistic skills by designing an original family crest, flag, banner, or sign using Elizabethan themes. Contest Divisions are Elementary School (grades 3-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), High School (grades 9-12), and adult.
Performance contests have been temporarily suspended for the 2010 season of the Virginia Renaissance Faire. Performance groups that are interested in performing should apply as a performer in the "Be A Guest Performer" program.

Madrigal Contest, open to middle and high school performance groups, provides an opportunity to showcase vocal performance skills by performing two a cappella songs based upon renaissance themes drawn from folk songs, and secular and church music.
